Three Amy Jacques Garvey Institute Youths Testified in front of Vincent Gray The Chairman of the DC City council. Afterwords Councilman Gray was gracious with his time and talked to EACH of our youth, giving them advice and posing for pictures. During the Hearing Councilman Gray made it clear that youth issues was amongst his Top priorities. It a was an enjoyable experience for all youth involved. The Committee of the Whole convenes a monthly Public Oversight Hearing on Youth Issues. These Live broadcasts and encore presentations of the Youth Hearings are aired on D.C. Cable Channel 13. The purpose of these hearings is to hear testimony from District of Columbia youth regarding a variety of issues that impact their lives. Youth are given an opportunity to offer the Council youthful perspectives and insight regarding issues such as: Education, Public Safety, Employment, Economic Development, Housing, and the Environment to name a few. Testimony was only open to DC youth who are ages 21 and under. The witnesses from Amy Jacques Garvey were Quincy French, India Ellsworth, and LeRoy McCrea. They Strongly supported at event by Excutive Secritary Carl McKinley, Senior Case Manager Kim Robinson, and Excutive Program Director Kendall Bryan.
